Wedding Planning Tips Northern Ireland Couples Will Find Helpful
Planning a wedding in Northern Ireland is such an exciting time, but I know it can also feel like there is a lot to think about at once.
As a wedding photographer, I get to see so many different weddings across Northern Ireland and Ireland, and there are a few simple things that always help the day feel more relaxed, more organised, and much more enjoyable.
So I’ve put together some wedding planning tips Northern Ireland couples might find helpful when they are shaping their day.

If you’re looking for a photographer who will go above and beyond, make you feel truly special, keep you calm and comfortable, and deliver the most amazing photos – then book with Melissa. I’ll be recommending her to all my nearest and dearest.

Build your timeline around real moments, not pressure
One of the biggest things I see at weddings is timelines that are too tight.
When couples build in a bit of breathing space, everything feels better:
- You are not rushed getting ready
- You have time to actually enjoy your ceremony build up
- Portraits feel relaxed instead of staged
- You get to be present with your guests
This is one of the most important wedding planning tips Northern Ireland couples can take on board, because it genuinely changes how the day feels.
Start with how you want your day to feel
Before you get too deep into timings, suppliers and spreadsheets, I always encourage couples to think about the feeling of their wedding day.
Do you want it to feel relaxed and slow paced
Do you want lots of time with guests
Do you want a big party atmosphere in the evening
Once you know that, every other decision becomes easier.

Where do I even start! Melissa absolutely MADE our wedding day. From the moment we both met her on our pre wedding shoot I knew we would get on like a house on fire. Melissa fitted in like one of the wedding party and kept us all laughing and joking the whole day. She honestly is so talented in her work and I would recommend her to everyone!!………
We love you Melissa!

Think about light when planning your ceremony and portraits
Light plays a huge role in how your wedding photos feel.
If you are planning an outdoor ceremony or portraits, I always suggest thinking about:
- Late afternoon light for softer portraits
- Avoiding harsh midday sun where possible
- Allowing a little time before sunset for couple photos
It is not about being rigid, just about giving yourself the best chance of beautiful natural images without rushing.

Keep group photos simple and stress free
Group photos are important, but they work best when they are planned in a simple way.
A small list of your must have combinations is usually perfect. I always help guide this on the day so it does not take over your drinks reception.
The goal is always the same, quick, relaxed, and back to enjoying your guests.

I can think of many words to explain Melissa but she is absolutely FANTASTIC!

Choose suppliers you feel comfortable with
Your wedding photographer, videographer, planner and your suppliers will be around you for most of the day, so feeling comfortable with them is what really matters.
You should feel relaxed, listened to and able to be yourself.
That is when the best photos happen naturally, without anything forced or awkward.

Leave space in your day to just be present
Some of my favourite moments at weddings are not the planned ones.
- A quiet moment just after the ceremony
- A laugh with friends during drinks
- A quick breath together before heading into dinner
- The energy on the dance floor later in the evening
These natural moments happen throughout the day and make you feel more connected to your friends and family.
If your day is too tightly scheduled, these moments can get lost. Leaving space allows them to happen naturally.
